At Milano Design week 2024, we designed two installations for Iittala in Milano, presented as a part of Capsule Plaza, at Spazio Maiocchi & 10 Corso Como. Our conceptual installations were designes and installed by the Spacon team.
10 corso como:
Hinging on Iittala’s attitude of “Don’t forget to PLAY”, we presented a band-like setup absent of human intervention to allow the glass pieces to speak for themselves. Unconventional, explorative pieces work in harmony to create a larger composition, dispersing rays of colored light around the space –– tying into Iittala’s desire to “paint the world in the colors of glass”.
For the launch of Iittala’s new era during Stockholm Design Week, multifaceted sound artist Damsel Elysium was invited to create bespoke glassware alongside newly appointed Creative Director Janni Vepsäläinen. Elysium created a soundscape using these pieces. To continue this creative journey, we designed a setup that spotlights the glassware in a new configuration, where music and artful presentation are still key considerations.
An interactive, encouraging shadowplay as visitors interact with the structure and the space. To pay homage to Iittala’s home country, Finnish equipment and band stickers were used — placing Finnish style in the center of Milan.
Spazio Maiocchi:
We designed a table installation in an immersive and experiential open kitchen and tasting space at Spazio Maiocchi in partnership with Marsotto & David Zilber. The installation was made with Iittala’s Ultima Thule collection by Tapio Wirkkala and celebrated Finnish Nature in a setup with green plants and moss growing from the landscape of glassware.
